Probably the best known sailing area in the world, The Solent offers hide away creeks, seaside cities and a maritime history no other destination can match.
The Solent and the South Coast of England are blessed with a huge variety of places to stop overnight. Large fully equipped marinas, smaller town quays and secluded tidal anchorages give the chance to get away from it all or conversly spend the night within walking distance of town and city centres.
Tides and currents
If there is one thing the Solent is famous for it is its tidal range and currents. This does call for more planning in your charter to get the most of how nature can help you on your way. Tidal range can be anywhere up to 5m+, with strong currents around headlands and harbour entrances. If you learn to sail in this stretch of water, you can sail almost anywhere in the world!
Weather
The mild weather and predicatble winds make the Solent a year round destination. During the summer expect some glorious days with the odd shower, water temperatures anywhere between 17 and 20 degrees. In the winter the weather is more unsettled but clear sunny days can give way to some excellent sailing. Don't worry the yachts all have heating just in case.
