Marinas, Harbours & Anchorages
Ranging from sophisticated and expensive marinas with a full range of facilities, crowded commercial and fishing harbours, to quiet and beautiful anchorages.
Tides & Currents
Tidal range in the cruising areas is only about 0.3m at most, and currents are generally weak, flowing northwest up the mainland coast, but to the south or east further offshore and around Sardinia and Sicily.
Bases
Portisco
On the north-east coast, an ideal starting point for sailing to the Maddelena Islands National Park and further north to Corsica. Mix with the elite in Porto Cervo - this is super yacht territory and a favourite with celebrity.Alghero
Relax in the quieter north-west of Sardinia - perfect beaches, quieter anchorages, caves to explore by boat and Catalan influenced buildings and cuisine.Carloforte
The south-west coast was formerly heavily involved in the mining of lead silver and quartz, and has many interesting places to explore ashore. The coast is has lots of small bays for anchoring and is much quieter than the northern part of the island.Flights
For Portisco the nearest airport is Olbia, with regular scheduled and charter flights. Alghero is served by low cost airlines from Stansted, for Carloforte the best option is to fly to Cagliari (charter and scheduled flights via Italy) but these are somewhat less frequent in operation. Rates form £150 - £300 return depending upon season and availability, flight time from London about 2 and a half hours.
